Michelle Obama: The heartbreaking reason she went to marital counselling with Barack

MICHELLE OBAMA has revealed the heartbreaking reason why she attended marriage counselling with Barack.

The former First Lady opened up about their joint counselling in her 2018 book, Becoming. She shared the intimate detail of their private life in the hope that young couples will understand that “marriage is work”. Michelle explained to CBS host Gayle King she and Barack cannot be role models if they don’t tell people the truth.

Michelle said: “Young couples think that all they see of us is the fist bump and the love and I'm looking adoringly at his speeches.

“And my view is that we can't be up here as role models and not be telling people the truth about life and relationships. Marriage is work. Marriage is hard.”

She added Barack loves her for being a strong woman.

Michelle said: “I was talking to a good friend of mine earlier today, about thinking about marriage like we think about sports.”

“I mean, my husband is my teammate and if we are going to win this game together, he has to be strong and he has to be okay with me being strong. I do not want a weak player on my team, nor does he.”

The heartbreaking revelation about their marriage being “hard” comes after Michelle said they are now “rediscovering each other”.

Mrs Obama explained how her marriage has changed since her two daughters have left.

Michelle and Barack have two children, Sasha and Malia.

The four lived in the White House for eight years during Barack’s term as the US President.

She added: “This is the beauty of finding a partner you really love and respect - because after all the highs and lows, the ups and downs we've been through, we have each other, which makes the journey worth it.”

“Marriage is all nice and cute but then kids show up and they take up all the oxygen in the land.

“That's why they make the babies cute because you would leave them at the Post Office.”
