Anneka Rice has been confirmed as one of the celebrity stars taking to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor this September. Her role on the 2019 series had been rumoured for a while before it was officially confirmed by BBC bosses in the weeks prior to the launch show. Here’s everything you need to know about Anneka, including her age, job and dancing experience.

Who is Strictly Come Dancing 2019 star Anneka Rice?

Anneka Rice has been revealed as one of the new celebrity contestants on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The Strictly star is a 60-year-old Welsh television and radio presenter who has been on screen since the '80s.

Anneka was announced on the Strictly Come Dancing Twitter account with the Tweet: “We challenge Anneka to one series of #Strictly. Ready to sparkle it's national *treasure*”

Speaking after being announced, Anneka revealed that she had very little experience with dancing.

She revealed: “I haven’t danced since I was 7 and Miss Beer sent me home from my ballet class because I was hopelessly uncoordinated.

“My family and friends haven’t seen me dance since, not at a wedding or round a handbag so it’s going to be a challenge for my partner.”

However, the presenter did reveal that she was really excited by the challenge to appear on the show.

She added: “I’m feeling recklessly excited. Strictly has always been my autumn’s entertainment and now I’m part of it! My children will probably leave the country.”

Her real name is Anne Lucinda Hartley Rice and she began her broadcasting career at the BBC World Service when she was just 19-years-old.

However, she first rose to fame in 1982 when she landed the role of the jump-suited skyrunner on Channel 4’s Treasure Hunt.

The show was a hugely popular format which saw contestants solving clues to win a cash prize and was even nominated for a BAFTA.

She left the show in 1988 when she fell pregnant and was replaced by former tennis player Annabel Croft.

A game show veteran, the presenter also went on to present Challenge Anneka in the '90s on the BBC.

The presenter also took some time away from the spotlight to raise her three children.

During her time away from presenting the skilled artist also studied painting at Chelsea College of Art.

Currently, Anneka presents a show on BBC Radio Two called The Pick of Radio Two With Anneka Rice, which showcases the best from the last week on the show.

The show airs on the radio every Saturday at midnight for two hours.

In June, she also presented a one woman show on BBC Radio Four telling the bizarre story of how she made-up her agent.

After being fired by a number of agents for refusing to take jobs, Anneka pretended her agent was a woman called Clemmie Hart.

She recently revealed that she was actually donned a Scottish accent and pretended to be her own agent for over a decade.

Strictly Come Dancing will also not be the presenter’s first taste of reality television, having also appeared on Celebrity Mastermind, Come Dine With Me and Celebrity Hunted

Who she is partnered up with in the dancing competition will be revealed in the Strictly launch show in early September.

The rest of the cast has been slowly being announced over the past few weeks across various platforms.

The BBC show's line-up includes David James, Chris RamseyEmma Barton, Saffron BarkerCatherine TyldesleyMike Bushell, Karim Zeroual, Viscountess Emma WeymouthMichelle VisageWill Bayley, Alex Scott and Dev Griffin.

Jamie Laing was scheduled to compete but was forced to quit in the days before the series launch.
